China's Dec09 Finished Steel Output Totals 64.6M Tons
China's manufacture of finished steel products totaled 64,639,000 tons in December 2009, up 2.7% from a month ago (up 31.4% from a year ago), in which production volumes hit a level of 3,000,000 tons for wide HR coils in thin sizes and that of 2,000,000 tons for plated products, indicating the first case each in monthly production, according to Chinese industrial statistics made available in Tokyo.

The productwise breakdown follows.

<>Of the flat products manufactured, HR sheets accounted for 667,000 tons, up 20.6% from a month ago; wide HR coils in medium thicknesses 7,893,000 tons, up 3.7%; wide HR coils in thin sizes 3,065,000 tons, up 8.3% (up by a factor of 2.27 from a year ago); narrow HR coils 4,533,000 tons, up 14.5%, topping a record 4,504,000 tons in June 2009; wide CR coils in thin sizes 2,304,000 tons, up 15.2%; narrow CR coils 713,000 tons, down 2.7%; and electrical sheets 470,000 tons, up 9.0%

<>Of the plate products manufactured, heavy plates of less than 50mm thick accounted for 1,760,000 tons, up 7.0% from a month ago, hitting a level of 1,700,000 tons for the first time since August 2008; heavy plates of 50mm thick 507,000 tons, up 16.4%; and medium plates 3,071,000 tons, down 3.6%.

<>Of the long products manufactured, rails accounted for 384,000 tons, down 0.6% from a month ago (down 27.6% from a year ago); large shapes 832,000 tons, down 4.0%; bars 5,030,000 tons, down 0.6%; and wire rods 8,725,000 tons, up 3.8%.

<>Of the tubular products manufactured, welded pipes accounted for 2,883,000 tons, up 0.6% from a month ago; and seamless pipes 2,218,000 tons, up 0.6%, hitting a level of 2,000,000 tons for the first time in one year since December 2008.
