In 2009 Baosteel Group's Meishan Iron and Steel (Meisteel) produced 3.027 million tons (Mt) of hot-rolled coil, 3.0066 Mt of continuous cast billets, and 3.173 Mt of pig iron, while annual output of pig iron, crude steel and steel products all surpassed the 3.0-Mt mark for the first time in the Company's history, setting new records. Baosteel Group announced January 29.
Having been exposed to the impacts of the international financial crisis, Meisteel production management faced unprecedented difficulties in 2009, which made it hard to fully display its ability of production, efficiency and profit generation. In the meantime, Meisteel put its No. 4 blast furnace and No. 4 sintering machine into operation during the first half year, and at the same time completed relevant technical reform, such as rebuilding of No. 1 continuous casting machine and No. 1 limekiln, thereby building up a production capacity of 3.5 Mt/a. In this regard, launching the working policy of "Seeking survival, reducing losses, vying for profit, and attempting growth and development", Meisteel will sustain highly lucrative operation and management. At the same time, in accordance with the new production capacity, etc., the Company established the target of "10,000-ton Output of Three Product Items", i.e. to daily produce 10,000 tons each of pig iron, continuous cast billets and steel coils, and will develop standardized commodities and enhance profitability of each commodity. |
