According to the operational results for 2009 announced by Russian steelmaking and resources developing company Mechel Group on February 1, crude steel production during the period plummeted 73.0% from the previous year to 5.496 million tonnes (Mt), which is the lowest level in the last several years. Iron ore production also dropped 10.5% to 4.208 Mt.
Mechel is one of Russia's leading steel companies operating Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant in the country. The Group also has Korshunov Mining Plant that has three open-pit mines at Korshunov, Rudnogorsk, and Tatyanino. |
