Russian leading steelmaking group Novolipetsk Steel ("NLMK") has announced its operational results for the fourth quarter (Oct - Dec) of 2009, according to which its iron ore mining subsidiary, Stoilensky GOK ("SGOK") sold 2,941 thousand tons (Kt) of concentrates and 510 Kt of sintered ore, totaling 3,451 Kt, being comparable to the previous quarter. Sales throughout 2009 were 11.875 Kt of concentrates (up 12.1% year on year) and 1,996 Kt of sintered ore (up 53.7%), resulting in a total of 13,871 Kt, which was up 16.7% year on year. NLMK has its principal office and steelworks in Lipetsk situated some 500 km southeast of Moscow, and has such steelmaking subsidiaries overseas as Beta Steel Corp in the USA and DanSteel in Denmark. Crude steel production in 2009 as a whole group totaled 10.6 million tonnes (Mt), a slight increase of 1.0% over the previous year. SGOK was incorporated in 1961 in the city of Stary Oskol, Belgorod Region in Central Russia. Conducting mining activities in Stoilensky deposit located in the central part of Northeastern strip of Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, the Company is producing iron ore concentrates and sintering ore. Proven ore reserves within the pit line of the deposit are 26.6 Mt of high-grade iron ore, and 1.4 billion tonnes of ferruginous quartzite. SGOK was acquired by NLMK IN 2008. |
