Total Output Of Crude Stainless Steel By 7 Companies In Japan For Dec. / 09 Increased
= Annual Production In CY 2009 Decreased By One Million Tons Compared To That In 2008
The total output of crude stainless steel by seven major stainless steel companies in Japan for December of 2009 increased by 8.8% compared with that in the previous month of November. This increase of the production was due to a revival of the orders for stainless steel products to be exported from Japan, having placed mainly before blast furnace mills, but specialized stainless steel companies have been still suffering from a dullness of the orders for exports and are unable to put the brake on a reduction in production of stainless steel as continued from October. In this meaning, the output of crude stainless steel in December engendered both extremes.

The quarterly movements in production of crude stainless steel at seven major stainless steel companies in Japan in the calender year (January - December) of 2009 were (1) January - March quarter : produced 375,000 tons, having continued on an extremely low level of 37.7% compared to that in the same quarter of 2008., (2) April - June quarter : produced 570,000 tons as recovered somewhat and returned to a level of 58.2% compared with that in the same quarter of 2008., (3) July - September quarter : produced 824,000 tons, having returned to a level of 85.2% compared with that in the same quarter of 2008., and (4) October - December quarter : produced 858,000 tons, having increased by 24.4% compared to that in the same quarter of 2008. For a reference, these seven stainless steel companies in Japan already entered into a substantial reduction in production of crude stainless steel from October - December quarter of 2008.

The total quantity of crude stainless steel produced by seven major stainless steel companies of Japan in December of 2009 was 289,000 tons, consisting of <> Nippon Steel Group : 114,000 tons, <> JFE Steel : 76,000 tons, <> Sumikin Group : 14,000 tons <> Nisshin Steel : 48,000 tons, <> Nippon Yakin Kogyo : 16,000 tons and <> Nippon Metal Industry : 20,000 tons.

Consequently, the quantity of crude stainless steel produced by seven major stainless steel companies of Japan in the calender year of 2009 had totaled to 2,628,000 tons, having had a considerable decrease of approximately 1,000,000 tons per year compared with that (3,629,000 tons) produced in the preceding year of 2008.
