Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 612,000 tons in January 2010, down 5.2% from a year ago (down 5.4% from a month ago), indicating a year-on-year decrease for the first time in 14 months, according to announced trade statistics from the Ministry of Finance.
Of the total, South Korea took the largest quantity of 361,000 tons or 59.0%, up by a factor of 2.5 from a year ago, replacing China as the top destination for the first time in three months. China took the second largest quantity of 241,000 tons or 39.3%, down 50.4% fro a year ago. As a result, the two nations together accounted for 98.3% of the total. |
