Taiwan's ferrous scrap imports totaled 3,912,000 tons in calendar 2009, down 29.4% from a year ago, when they fell short of 4,000,000 tons for the first time in four years, according to Taiwanese trade statistics made available in Tokyo.
In the breakdown by main sources, the USA ranked first at 2,153,000 tons or 55.0% of the total, down 20.2% from a year ago; Japan second at 342,000 tons or 8.7%, up 56.5%; the Netherlands third at 151,000 tons or 3.9%, down 46.0%; and Hong Kong fourth at 148,000 tons or 3.8%, down 73.9%. |
