China Has Stocked 2,600,000 Tons Of Manganese Ore Accumulated At Wharves In Discharging Ports
= The Stocks Have Been Concentrated On Tianjin And Qinzhou Ports, Its Excess Has Been Felt
It was informed by the parties concerned in China that the total quantity of manganese ore imported into China and accumulated at wharves in discharging ports is estimated to have reached approximately 2,600,000 tons as of the 20th of July. A normal level of manganese ore stocked at wharves is usually said to be a portion of 2 months against its consumption per month and, therefore, more than several hundred thousand tons of manganese ore have been stocked in China as a surplus.

According to an investigation reported from China, the quantities of manganese ore stocked at wharves in main discharging ports will be <> Tianjin port : 1,120,000 tons <> Qinzhou port : 700,000 tons, <> Lianyungang port : 150,000 tons, <> Zhanjiang port : 240,000 tons, <> Fangcheng port : 200,000 tons, <> Beihai port : 170,000 tons and <> Total : 2,580,000 tons.

China imported 6,051,000 tons of manganese ore in the first half (January - June) of 2010, having increased by about 2 times compared with that (3,055,000 tons) in the same period of 2009. Also, the monthly quantities of manganese ore imported by China in the first half of 2010 were <> January : 955,000 tons, <> February :917,000 tons, <> March : 960,000 tons, <> April : 1,125,000 tons, <> May : 1,140,000 tons and <> June : 954,000 tons.

Since spring of 2010, the price of manganese ore to be imported by China has been anticipated to rise further for the coming months and Chinese side has held a strong intention to import more manganese ore. Accordingly, many contracts to import manganese ore into China have been concluded, resulting in the excess of its imports. These excessive cargoes of manganese ore contracted as mentioned above had arrived in China in April and afterwards, having caused to generate a surplus of manganese ore in China.

However, new contracts to import manganese ore into China for shipments in July and afterwards have been restrained to a substantial extent and the volumes of monthly contracts on imports of manganese ore concluded with Chinese customers by major manganese mines in overseas countries have declined. Accordingly, the monthly quantities of manganese ore imported into China had once reached a peak in April - June quarter of 2010 but, then, are forecasted to decrease gradually.

However, because of the fact that domestic price of silico-manganese in China has weakened, the quantities of manganese ferro-alloys, such as silico-manganese, produced in China have turned to decrease from June on a basic tone and, therefore, the current consumption of manganese ore in China has been shadowed somewhat. This aspect is the reason, why price of manganese ore to be proposed by major manganese mines for shipments to China in September is marked.
