|China's February Scrap Imports Total 249,000 Tons|
China's ferrous scrap imports totaled 249,000 tons in February 2011, down 46.3% from a year ago, indicating a low level for the first time in two years and four months since October 2008, according to Chinese trade statistics made available in Tokyo. |
Of the total imports, Japan supplied the largest quantity of 166,000 tons, down 13.9% from a year ago; and the USA the second largest of 61,000 tons, down 54.2%.
In January-February 2011, China's ferrous scrap imports totaled 708,000 tons, down 34.2% from the same period of 2010, translating into an annualized 4,250,000 tons.
In the breakdown by main sources, Japan ranked first at 382,000 tons or 53.9% of the total, down 13.7% from the corresponding period of 2010; and the USA second at 244,000 tons or 34.5%, down 19.8%. As a result, the two nations together accounted for 88.4% of the total.
