|Japanfs March Scrap Exports Total 445,000 Tons|
Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 445,000 tons in March 2011, down 8.7% from a year ago (down 20.1% from a month ago), according to announced trade statistics from the Ministry of Finance. |
Of the total, South Korea took the largest quantity of 235,000 tons, and China the second largest of 203,000 tons.
In January-March 2011, Japanese ferrous scrap exports totaled 1,426,000 tons, down 26.7% from the same period 2010, averaging 475,000 tons per month, when they translated into an annualized 5,700,000 tons.
In the breakdown by main destinations, South Korea ranked first at 811,000 tons or 56.9% of the total, down 30.3% from the corresponding period of 2010, and China second at 589,000 tons or 41.3%, down 15.4%. As a result, the two nations together accounted for 98.2% of the total.
