USA's March Scrap Exports Total 1,893,000 Tons
The USA's ferrous scrap exports totaled 1,893,000 tons in March 2011, up 32.6% from a year ago (down 2.0% from a month ago), according to US trade statistics made available in Tokyo.

Of the total, China took the largest quantity of 365,000 tons, up 21.9% from a year ago; Turkey the second largest of 318,000 tons, up 69.3%; and South Korea the third largest of 281,000 tons, down 6.9%.

In January-March 2011, US ferrous scrap exports totaled 5,048,000 tons, up 18.6% from the same period of 2010, averaging 1,680,000 tons per month, translating into an annualized 20,190,000 tons.

In the breakdown by main destinations, China ranked first at 956,000 tons or 18.9% of the total, up 4.7% from the corresponding period of 2010; Turkey second at 923,000 tons or 18.3%; up 101.7%; Taiwan third at 705,000 tons or 14.0%, up 40.8%; South Korea fourth at 700,000 tons or 13.9%, down 18.0%; Canada fifth at 402,000 tons or 8.0%, up 21.8%; and Thailand sixth at 263,000 tons or 5.2%, up 38.2%.
