The benchmark price of South African charge chrome to be purchased by major stainless steel companies of Japan for shipments in the third quarter (July - September) of 2011 has been settled by a reduction of 15 US-Cents per lb. of Cr and the new price for July - September quarter has come down to 128 US-Cents per lb. of Cr CIF Japan.

Apart from the negotiations between South African producers and European mills on price of charge chrome for July - September quarter, which are still delaying to decide, Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel has settled on the end of last week with major South African producers on the price of charge chrome for July - September quarter as mentioned above.

Japanese mills said that, in order to maintain the strength to be competitive on sales of stainless steel products in the international market, the price of South African charge chrome for shipments to Japan in July - September quarter has been reduced to the level, which is possible to oppose sufficiently the prices of high carbon ferro-chrome (charge chrome) prevailing in China and Europe.
