South Korea's Iron Ore Imports In 2011
= Hyundai Steel's two blast furnaces increased iron ore imports =
According to Korean Customs Service, in 2011, South Korea imported 64.853 million tonnes of iron ore in total, up 8.554 million tonnes, 15.2% from 56.298 million tonnes of the previous year. In South Korea, Hyundai Steel as well as POSCO started to operate two blast furnaces in 2010, resulting in sharp rise in iron ore imports. The country imported 44.1 million tonnes from Australia, a 68% share, and 16.42 million tonnes from Brazil, a 25.3% share. Imports from these two countries exceeds 90% of the total.
