|Japan's January Steel Export Showed 2,944,000 Tons|
|= It decreased by 16.0% from December and by 6.0% from a year earlier|
The Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) gathered and released on February 29 statistics on steel export (all steel basis) of January, 2012.|
According to this, steel export in January was 2,944 thousand tons. Export amount in dollar was 3 billion 576 million, and that in yen was 276 billion. Compared with the same month last year, quantity decreased by 16.0% for 11 months in a row, amount in dollar decreased by 4.6% for the 3 months in a row, and that in yen also decreased by 11.1% for 3 months in a row. Meantime, it was for the first time in 2 years and 7 months since June, 2009 that export quantity per month fell below 3 million tons. Compared with the previous month, quantity decreased by 6.0% for the first time in 2 months, and amount decreased by 10.8% in dollar and by 11.3% in yen both for the first time in 2 months.
Export quantity of ordinary steel was 2,946 thousand tons, down 16.7% from the same month last year for 5 months in a row, and also down 7.1% from the previous month for the first time in 2 months.
By item with % compared with the same month last year, hot-rolled steel coils (699 thousand tons, down 5.8%) decreased for 3 months in a row, galvanized steel sheets/coils (311 thousand tons, down 21.5%) did for 11 months in a row, steel plates (251 thousand tons, down 21.2%) did for 3 months in a row, cold-rolled steel coils (223 thousand tons, down 38.1%) did for 5 months in a row, electrical steel sheets/coils (68 thousand tons, down 20.4%) did for 3 months in a row, seamless steel pipes/tubes (53 thousand tons, down 11.5%) did for 4 months in a row, and steel wire rods (33 thousand tons, down 39.6%) did for 3 months in a row. While, welded/forged steel pipes/tubes (74 thousand tons, up 18.6%) increased for 3 months in a row, steel shapes and sections (67 thousand tons, up 29.6%) did for the first time in 4 months, and steel bars (31 thousand tons, up 3.8%) did for 2 months in a row.
By item with % compared with the previous month, galvanized sheets/coils (down 16.1%), shapes and sections (down 13.4%), plates (down 11.2%), cold coils (down 5.7%), seamless pipes/tubes (down 5.1%), bars (down 4.3%), welded/forged pipes/tubes (down 2.0%), wire rods (down 12.2%), electrical sheets/coils (down 9.2%), and so on decreased respectively. While, hot coils remained steady.
By destination on all steel basis with % compared with the same month last year, export quantity to the biggest Korea (613 thousand tons, down 23.8%) decreased for 14 months in a row, and that to China (431 thousand tons, down 30.1%) did for 10 months in a row, that to Thailand (352 thousand tons, down 2.9%) did for 3 months in a row, and that to Taiwan (228 thousand tons, down 29.3%) did for 3 months in a row respectively. While, export to USA (174 thousand tons, up 18.2%) increased for 6 months in a row.
