Japan's Scrap Prices Average Y30,640 In Three Main Trading Areas
Japan's domestic market prices of locally available ferrous scrap averaged Y30,640/ton delivered at steelworks for No2 HMS in the Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai areas in the fourth week of February 2012, up Y2,172 from a week ago, according to a monitor survey by the Japan Ferrous Raw Materials Association. As a result, the average price advanced for three consecutive weeks. Besides, it hit a level of Y30,000/ton for the first time in four and a half months since the second week of October 2011.

In the fourth week of February 2012, the monitor prices of No2 HMS ex steelworks in cash transactions were Y32,833/ton in Kanto, up Y1,750 from a week ago; Y30,520/ton in Chubu, up Y3,100; and Y28,567/ton in Kansai, up Y1,667. The monitor price indicates the average of benchmark prices.
