Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) announced on Mar 8 that the company had executed a transportation contract with JFE Steel to transport iron ore and coal by a capesize bulk carrier. This long-term contract will be effective for 15 years from 2014 and a 206,600 dwt capesize bulker developed by Imabari Shipbuilding will be newly built and used for the transportation.|
This vessel is 299.9 meters long, 50 meters wide, and 24.7 meters deep, improving fuel economy by around 20% compared to existing 205,000 dwt bulk carriers owing to better propulsion efficiency and energy-saving technology. The vessel is expected to greatly contribute to global environmental protection by cutting greenhouse gases.
K Line executed a long-term transportation contract with JFE Steel last December as well, using two 209,000 dwt capesize bulker which was developed by Universal Shipbuilding and achieved breakthrough fuel consumption reduction, expanding the foundation of the company's steady income.
