Japan SUS Products March Imports Sharply Up
= Up by 36%; large increases from major origins =
The Japan Iron and Steel Federation compiled the import statistics released by the Ministry of Finance into the table attached hereto with regard to the imports of stainless steel products in March 2012 as well as during the first three months of 2012.

Total imports in March were 17,971 tons, up by 35.7% from February.

Comparison of March imports with February regarding the three major sources gives the following changes, <> Korea: up by 35.0%, <> Taiwan: up by 44.4%, and <> China: up by 44.7%. Imports from Korea in March were the highest in the past six months.

Total value of the imports was US$63.820 million with an averaged unit price of US$3,551.28/ton, down by 7.4% from the preceding month. Prices of the imported products from China were up, while the prices of the cargo imported from Korea and Taiwan dropped.

Total imported quantity of special steel products, including the stainless steel products, in March was 45,165 tons, up by 21.1% from February. This gain was because of the increase in imports of other special steel products, which was 27,194 tons, also up by 13.0% from the preceding month.
