Korea Ferroalloy Imports January - June 2012
= 584,000 tons, up 3% from the same period of 2011 =
Korea's imports during the first half (January - June) of 2012 according to the Import Statistics of Korea, were 584,017 tons, up 3.0% from 566,971 tons recorded in the same period of 2011, and basically in line with the growth in Korea's crude steel production during the same period, i.e. up 3.1% to 35.02 million tons compared to the same period in 2011. Details of the imports are as per the table attached hereto.

Exports by Korea during the same six-month period were 166,296 tons, up 7.8% from the same period of 2011.

Details of the exports with comparison to the same period of 2011 in parentheses after each figure are, <> high-carbon ferromanganese: 64,403 tons (up 29.7%), <> medium/low-carbon ferromanganese: 63,751 tons (down 1.3%), <> ferrosilicon: (Si>55%): 2,021 tons (up 10.0%), <> silico-manganese: 28,910 tons (up 6.2%), <> high-carbon ferrochrome: 190 tons (down 5.9%), <> medium/low-carbon ferrochrome: 122 tons (up 50.6%), <> ferronickel: no export (569 tons in the same period of 2011), <> ferromolybdenum: 2,707 tons (up 29.2%), <> ferrovanadium: 1,685 tons (up 34.4%).

On an annualized basis by calculation using the growth rate during the first six months, exports of high-carbon ferromanganese, ferrosilicon (Si>55%) and ferrovanadium will exceed the annual exports recorded in 2011.
