|China Cr Ore Imports Up - August 2012|

According to China's customs statistics, details of the imports of chrome ore in August 2012 as well as during the eight months (January - August) of 2012 are as per the table attached hereto.|
Imports of the ore in August were 937,472 tons (weight of the ore), up 3.6% from July, recording the third highest monthly imports following the highest at 960,637 tons in March 2011 and 944,564 tons in September 2010. Despite the increase in the imports, the quayside stocks reportedly decreased to more or less 2.70 million tons on or about August 31.
Breakdown of the imports by originating country is, in thousand tons with comparison to July 2012 in the parentheses after each figure, <> South Africa: 405 (down 17.0%), <> Turkey: 272 (up 44.1%), <> Pakistan: 66 (down 1.2%), <> Iran: 46 (up 3.3 times), <> Albania: 32 (up 34.1%), <> Oman: 32 (down 35.5%), and <> Australia: 24 (up 11.7%). Shipments from India fell to 8,487 tons (down 65.1%). The decrease in the imports from South Africa was more than compensated by the increases from Turkey and Iran.
Averaged unit price of the ore imported in August was US$220.93/ton, up 2.6% from July mainly due to the increase of higher-priced ore imports from Turkey and Iran, besides the unit price rise of the South African ores.
