|Crude SUS Production by Major SUS Mills in Feb. Is 294,083 Tons|
|=Down by 6% from the prior month, but up by 4% in terms of daily production=|
The crude stainless steel production by 7 major stainless steel mills in February was 294,083 tons, down by 5.9% from the prior month (312,628 tons). However, the daily production divided by calendar days was up by 4.1% from the prior month, and it can be said the production was steady (details are as per the table attached herewith).|
As to the breakdown by works, the production at Yawata Works of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) and Shunan Works of Nisshin Steel Co., Ltd. fell below the prior month, out of which Yawata Works of NSSMC kept a production level of 100,000 tons per month also in February. This was simply because of the increase in production of special steel, not because of the increase in production of stainless steel.
Besides, the production of stainless steel at Hikari Works of NSSMC has risen for 3 consecutive months. The reason for that was because the production was increased by being advanced due to a regular inspection in May.
Just for reference, Shunan Works of Nisshin Steel and Kinuura Works of Nippon Metal Industry Co., Ltd. in the list attached were reallocated this time and put on the list side by side. Although the management integration took place between Nisshin Steel and Nippon Metal Industry to become Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. on October 1, 2012, the trade name is scheduled to be unified to Nisshin Steel from June 25 next year.
