NSSMC Develops World's First 7% Ni Plates for LNG Tanks to Practical Use
Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal (NSSMC) announced on 13th that the company developed 7% nickel steel plates for LNG tanks of low-temperature pressure vessels, and such plates are used for a world's largest No. 5 LNG tank at Senboku I of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd.

NSSMC developed the world's first 7% nickel contained steel plates of which nickel contents are reduced by 20% from those of 9% nickel plates but the strength and destruction safety of 7% ones are equivalent to those of 9% ones. The 9% nickel plates have been the mainstream over half a century.

NSSMC supplies about 3,800 tons of 7% nickel plates with a maximum thickness of about 50 mm to that project.
