The domestic consumption of nickel metal (in pure Ni equivalent) in the period from January - April in 2013 compiled by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry was 14,164 tons, up by 0.7% from the year-earlier period (14,059 tons).|
As to the consumption in the period from January to April, the consumption for storage battery and magnetic materials has still shown a drastic decrease, but as the consumption for special steels which comprises 85.7% of the total nickel consumption was increased by 7.9% ditto, which worked as a traction power for the total increase. The total sum surpassed the year-earlier period slightly.
For a reference, the consumption in April was 3,943 tons, up by 10.6% from the prior month and also up by 8.7% from the year-earlier month. The consumption has headed for recovery since the consumption on a single month basis dropped to 2,574 tons in December last year.
