Gindalbie Metals Ships 5.4 Million Tonnes
Australia's Gindalbie Metals Limited provided on Sep 2 the following update on production and shipments of the Karara Project in the mid-western part of Western Australia. Product shipments are continuing and the Karara Project has now shipped approximately 5.4 million tonnes. Approximately 4 million tonnes of DSO hematite and 1.4 million tonnes of magnetite concentrate have been exported in more than 90 shipments. After taking into account the reduced throughput rates for the next three months while the tailings de-watering system is optimised, Karara Mining Limited (KML), a joint venture between Gindalbie and China's Anshan Iron and Steel operating ore mines, expects production of magnetite concentrate to be in the range of 1.5-2.0 million tonnes for the six months to 31 December 2013. Shipments of DSO hematite for this period are expected to be in the range of 1.9-2.1 million tonnes, of which approximately 60% will be high grade iron ore, with the balance roughly split between medium and low grade products. The Karara Concentrator will achieve nameplate throughput of 8Mtpa and steady state production.
