|Soma LNG Terminal Start-Up on Schedule|
|= Despite deferral of FID at PNW-LNG =|
Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) has no plan to make changes in the start-up schedule of Soma LNG Import Terminal the company is building. Despite the recent decision to defer the final investment decision (FID) to construct an LNG-producing plant in Canada, Pacific Northwest LNG (PNW-LNG), the terminal will start operation in March 2018 as scheduled.|
Before the decision of deferral, FID was going to be made at the end of December 2014 by Petronas (Malaysia) and its partners including JAPEX who holds the project's 10% stake and a right to LNG offtake of up to 1.2 million tonnes per year in accordance with the stake.
With the decision, output of first LNG from the project will be delayed as a result. This means that the gap in time between the turn-key of the terminal and the first LNG output will be wider than the originally estimated 9 months that was based on the former start-up schedule at the end of 2018.
JAPEX will need to find sources of LNG supply during the gap for the terminal's operation, but, according to the company, the quantity of LNG required will be limited during the terminal's ramp-up.
