Hong Kong's Dec 2014 Scrap Exports Total 107,000 Tons

Hong Kong's ferrous scrap exports totaled 107,000 tons in December 2014, down 25.8% from the same month of a year ago, according to Hong Kong trade statistics made available in Tokyo.

As a result, Hong Kong's ferrous scrap exports totaled 1,259,000 tons in calendar 2014, up 5.6% from a year ago, indicating a year-on-year increase for two consecutive years, when they averaged 105,000 tpm.

Of the total, Vietnam took the largest quantity of 361,000 tons or 28.7%, up 56.2%; China the second largest of 324,000 tons or 25.7%, down 29.2%; Taiwan the third largest of 250,000 tons or 19.8%, up 10.5%; and Indonesia the fourth largest of 139,000 tons or 11.0%, up 63.6%. As a result, the top four destinations together accounted for 85.2% of the total.

In recent calendar years, the annual levels of Hong Kong's ferrous scrap exports were 1,245,000 tons in 2007; 1,247,000 tons in 2008; 1,183,000 tons in 2009; 1,012,000 tons in 2010; 1,136,000 tons in 2011; 1,099,000 tons in 2012; and 1,193,000 tons in 2013.
