Forecast on Demand for Special Steel During October to December 2015
= Down by 9% from year-earlier period, and demands for auto and energy industries are weak =
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry made clear its forecast on the demand for special steel products during October to December in 2015 in its lecture made in the meeting held on October 5 by Special Steel Association of JAPAN.

According to this, the demand for special steel products during October to December (based on a monthly average) is 1.0529 million tons for domestic consumption, 510,500 tons for international export and 1.5634 million tons for the total. When compared with the expected result in the prior period (July - September), the domestic consumption is up by 1.9%, the international export down by 1.0% and the total up by 1.0%.

However, when compared with the year-earlier period, the domestic consumption is down by 6.5% and the international export down by 12.7%, which is thought to be due to both domestic consumption and international export being down owing to the weak demand for auto and energy industries in addition to overall weak demand.

In Japan, such things become one of factors for weak demand as a slightly high inventory and the increased number of kinds of steel products imported from China and South Korea. Besides, albeit the circumstance for export to USA is firm due to depreciation of Japanese yen, the weakness in the demand for the Asian region like ASEAN affects much.

The forecast on demand by type of steel products is as shown in the table below.
