In early June, several stainless steel mills in the Kanto area offer the purchase price (delivered at plant) of nickel-containing stainless steel scrap (SABOT) at around JPY105,000 per ton, down by JPY5,000 from the prior month. There are also some mills which still offer JPY110,000, but are thought to reduce the price in a few days. (Hereinafter, the price is per ton.) |
In late May, albeit many of stainless steel mills studied to reduce the purchase price of SABOT by JPY5,000 because of a weakening LME price and a decrease in the production of stainless steel, this price reduction was put off owing to the priority which was put on procurement of the spot goods. As of early June, there is no change in stagnating production of stainless steel and the feeling of stainless steel scrap being tight, but many of stainless steel mills have begun to reduce the purchase price against a background of slumping LME nickel price.
This time, the pickup traders for export cargoes also reduce the purchase price in the same way, and the price prevailing in the Kanto area is JPY105,000.
