|Prices of CR Austenitic Stainless Sheets for Asia Reach $2,000 CFR Level|
Japan's export prices of cold-rolled (CR) austenitic stainless steel sheets for Asia have reached the level of $2,000 CFR for shipments of October and November. Such order at a higher price of $2,100 CFR has appeared. As the nickel prices of material remain relatively stable at $4.50 per pound or so, customers have accepted an increase in prices to some extent.|
Some Taiwanese mill's price for Hong Kong seems to be $1,920 CFR. It is said that China's domestic market prices rose by more than $100 in dollar equivalent in the past 2 months. It is seen to be one of factors of such price rises that Baosteel Stainless Steel suspended operations of a blast furnace.
Chinese mills' offers are few in the export market possibly due to shifting to the domestic market, and Korean mills are not so active for export as Chinese mills' exports to Korea are decreasing. So, those elements are likely to have become a factor for markups in export prices by the Japanese mills.
A rise in prices of stainless steel hot-rolled (HR) steel coils is bigger than that of CR stainless sheets. Prices of HR austenitic and ferritic stainless steel coils have risen by $150 and $100 or so respectively.
The Japanese mills are on track to curb exports anticipating that domestic demand for stainless steel may increase for shipments of November and onward. If so, the high level in prices of stainless steel flat products will be maintained for a while.
