|Ni SUS Scrap Purchase Price in Kanto in Dec Starts with JPY120,000|
|= Buying becomes proactive due to expectation of further rise, and pickup price for export is JPY125,000/ton =|
Stainless steel mills in the Kanto area now offer the purchase price (delivered at plant) of nickel-containing stainless steel scrap (SABOT) at the JPY120,000 range. This is up by JPY5,000 - JPY10,000 from late November. (Hereinafter, the price is per ton)|
The pickup traders for export raised the cargo pickup price to JPY125,000 from December 1, and some of them offer the purchase price at JPY130,000 for a limited time only.
Although there is a difference among the stainless steel mills' purchase prices, all of the persons in charge have a strong anticipation of a price rise and are positive about purchase. The factors for the anticipation of a price rise are (1) It is quite likely that the contract price of high-carbon ferro-chrome in the period from January to March in 2017 will be up, (2) LME nickel price shows an upward trend and (3) On the other side of the coin that the prices of imported goods are up due the basic tone of weak yen, the domestic goods will be easily replaced by imported goods.
There are many opinions that worry about a massive increase especially in the price of high-carbon ferro-chrome, and it seems that securing spot goods and adding the inventory take priority over risks to incur appraisal losses on the inventory at the time of final settlement of accounts at the end of December.
