|Ni SUS Scrap Purchase Price in Kanto in July Starts with JPY115,000/120,000|
|= Demand for SUS scrap is weak, and price in Kanto area is JPY5,000 cheaper than others =|
As of July 5, many of the stainless steel mills in the Kanto area offer the purchase price (delivered at plant) of nickel-containing stainless steel scrap (SABOT) at the range from JPY115,000 to JPY120,000 per ton. (Hereinafter, the price is per ton)|
The demand itself for stainless steel products is strong, but the price of stainless steel scrap is down from the prior month, such reasons for which are provided as (1) LME nickel price rebounded in the latter half of June, but the monthly average price was down, (2) A fire occurred at the electric arc furnace mill in the Kanto area in May, and the operation of some of the facilities are suspended, (3) The demand for stainless steel scrap becomes weak before the production curtailment period in the summer time and (4) The benchmark price of charge chrome for Europe was fixed by being down by Cents 44 from the prior period, and the value of chrome content in the scrap shows a sign of going down.
Especially, as the electric furnace mill which suspended operation of some of the facilities as mentioned in (2) stopped purchasing stainless steel scraps, there is a feeling of surplus spot goods in the Kanto area, and the price is JPY5,000 cheaper than other areas.
Besides, as to (4), at the stage when the contract price of high-carbon ferro-chrome meant for Japan for the period from July to September is announced officially, the influence will come up to the surface. However, as the price cut range is as big as around JPY20,000 based on a simple calculation (Cr content: 18%), the price is thought to drop in a step-by-step manner during July.
