Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp (NSSMC) revealed on November 14 that Japan's Tokiwakai group of domestic steel distributors held in stock a total of 175,900 tons of H-beams across the nation at the end of October 2017, down by 5,700 tons or 3.1% from the end of a month ago. The warehousing to the distributors was 85,400 tons, down by 3,800 tons from a month ago, and the shipment from distributors was 91,100 tons, up by 4,100 tons. The quantity of shipment marked 90,000 tons level for the 1st time in 11 months, which reflected the active demand. The ratio of inventory was 1.93 month, and it dipped below 2.0 month for the 1st time in 11months.|
According to the quantity of converted steel, which is calculated by the company based on the total floor area of construction starts, keeps high level from a month ago, and it estimated to mark 450,000 tons in September. The total quantity of converted steel in January to September 2017 is 3,940,000 tons. It is almost equal to that of 3,970,000 tons in 2013, which is the highest level since 2010. The details of converted steel in 2013 was mainly demand for housing, which was generated by the last minute demand before the raise of consumption tax rate, but there are many structure of industrial steel in this year. If this trend continues, there is the high possibility that the quantity of converted steel in 2017 would exceed that of 2013.
