|US Venture Global LNG to Take FID for Calcasieu Pass in Early 2019|
|= FERC issues final EIS, showing positive attitude to approval =|
US Venture Global LNG announced on 23rd local time that it would make a final investment decision for the Calcasieu Pass LNG project in early 2019. The Company showed confidence on commencing production from 2022 as scheduled as the US government's approval processes moved forward.|
On 22nd, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a final environmental impact statement (final EIS) on the Calcasieu Pass project, saying that the project may have impacts on nearby areas, but this could be lowered to the acceptable level, showing forward-looking attitude to approval, same as the draft EIS issued this June.
FERC intends to invite opinions and make a final decision by January 24th, 2019. After that, Venture Global plans to make the FID and start construction in early 2019.
The project plans to build an LNG production/export terminal with a production capacity of 10 mtpa, consisting of nine small-scale 1.2-mtpa trains and other facilities. The Company has inked SPA deals with six companies, Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Edison, Repsol, Galp, and PGNiG to supply 8 mtpa of LNG in total.
The Company has brought in Mr. Jim Strohman, former Project Director of the Cove Point LNG project, as Senior Vice President/Project Director. With his experiences in the Cove Point, the Company aims to launch the project within its budget.
