Japan's Purchase Price of HC FeCr in April-June Up by US Cents 8
= US Cents 128 per lb, up due to cost increase and supply instability =
Japanese stainless steel mills have continued negotiation with multiple overseas ferro-chrome producers to fix the purchase price of high-carbon ferro-chrome for the period from April to June in 2019 and have this time come to an agreement on the price to be up by US Cents 8 from the prior period. The price is US Cents 128 per lb by estimate, up by 6.7% from the prior period, and the price hike is for the first time in one year since the period from April to June last year.

There is no big change in the demand in Japan, but the market participants provide such reasons for a price hike as (1) Electricity rate in South Africa will rise by 13.82% from April 1, and the production cost of ferro-chrome will go up, (2) Power supply condition in South Africa becomes aggravated and the supply instability is supposed to occur in the periods from April to June and from July to September, (3) Consumption in India and Indonesia is increasing and (4) Spot price in China is rising.

The transition of the prices since the year 2017 is <> During January to March in 2017: Cents 173 (up by Cents 55 ditto), <> During April to June: Cents 162 (down by Cents 11 ditto), <> During July to September: Cents 118 (down by Cents 44 ditto), <> During October to December: Cents 147 (up by Cents 29 ditto), <> During January to March in 2018: Cents 126 (down by Cents 21 ditto), <> During April to June: Cents 150 (up by Cents 24 ditto), <> During July to September: Cents 146 (down by Cents 4 ditto), <> During October to December: Cents 132 (down by Cents 14 ditto), <> During January to March in 2019: Cents 120 (down by Cents 12 ditto) and <> During April to June: Cents 128 (up by Cents 8 ditto).
